Guthrie, Oklahoma https://www.thebluevan.us/guthrie-oklahoma/ https://www.thebluevan.us/guthrie-oklahoma/#comments Fri, 09 Nov 2012 14:49:11 +0000 http://www.thebluevan.us/?p=733 Continue reading Guthrie, Oklahoma]]> We left Kansas and drove through the sunshine to Oklahoma.   Before we left Wichita, we downloaded Oklahoma! from Amazon and by the time we reached Guthrie, we all had the song memorized.

Oklahoma, where the wind comes sweepin’ down the plain
And the wavin’ wheat can sure smell sweet
When the wind comes right behind the rain.

We stopped in the lovely historic city of Guthrie about 30 miles north of Oklahoma City.  Guthrie was the first state capital for Oklahoma and has the best collection of late nineteenth century victorian architecture in the nation and  the world’s largest conservatory.  We meandered the antique shops and the girls bought a box of Barbie clothes.   We headed to a lake to camp but the campground was closed for hunting season so we parked in a parking lot.
